Interjections are words, phrases or short clauses that express strong emotions, reactions or spontaneous feelings. They are not grammatically related to other parts of a sentence, meaning they can stand alone to convey the speaker’s emotion or reaction.

In written communication, interjections are often followed by an exclamation mark to emphasize the emotion:

Wow! That was incredible!

However, they can also be incorporated into sentences with commas to denote a less intense emotion:

Well, I didn’t see that coming.
